Conversations with My Uncle is a nonlinear memoir told through reflective exchanges between Yani and her uncle, Bouj. Each section opens with a short, screenplay-style conversation, followed by a prose chapter that expands on the experience, story, or theme it introduces.

The conversations center on defining moments—mistakes, fears, disappointments, dreams, and new challenges—that build Yani’s “armor.” Rather than emotional hardness, this armor protects the flesh, spirit, and mind, forged through experience, family wisdom, resilience, and growing self-trust.

When Yani enters unfamiliar territory, she turns to Bouj. Drawing on his own journey, he encourages her to face storms rather than flee, embrace herself, pursue her ambitions, and move through fear with courage. Together, the conversations and chapters trace Yani’s evolution while revealing the power of a strong family bond and the comfort of having someone trustworthy to confide in.
