25 Jun The Missing String
One of the chapters in Conversations with my Uncle talks about how God gives you everything you need. In the chapter I mention the time I found a free guitar leaning against a tree in my neighborhood. The guitar was exactly how I wished it to be. However, the only flaws it has are a few scratches and one popped string. At the time, I did not have any extra strings and I was low on funds. So for a few weeks, I just left the guitar alone.
For a few years, Bouj has been drilling into my mind that I have everything that I need. This can be tough to hear if you are experiencing loss or any form of lack (financially, community, etc.). However, what if he is right?
One day, I was cleaning my instruments. Moving onto the next guitar, which belonged to my grandfather, I noticed that it also missed a few strings but it had one particular string that I needed. At that moment, a light bulb went off in my head. I had an idea to remove the string from the old guitar and install it into the new guitar. Which I did!
Long story short, the string still popped after striking it once but the moral of the story is that I have everything that I need. I learned that when I am consumed by lack, I can be blinded to the blessings that are right in front of me.
Shortly after that, I managed to save enough money to buy a new string for my guitar.
